Service Announcement: Kitchen Aid Food Processors Leak!!!

After years of much cheaper food processors I recently made a $600 investment with a kitchen aid food processor and discovered the hard way that they leak on the first use. So disappointing since I love my red mixer and loved that it would match. I was told from the matchbox store that you have to add the ingredients one at time and it how the bowls are stored in cupboard etc. Even the website says if leaks you should try to pulse liquids for only 1-2 seconds at time. There are no scratches/holes etc it is just a bad design. Matchbox refused to give me a refund instead offering to give me a new bowl and I'm since found out that this a regular fault: see this google search for example. Such a waste of money! I'm making a complaint to consumer affairs but wanted to share the news so others don't get stuck in the same situation.

So spread the news!

  1. What were you trying to blend? I have tried making smoothies in my f.p before with pretty disasterous results!
It's annoying, but that's just how most f/p's are- they are not designed to blend liquids, they are made for blending solids/moistened solids into crumbs or paste, grating, grinding or chopping. For liquids you really do need a blender, unless you have the patience for small batches in your f.p. I don't mean to sound rude but if you are using an appliance to do something it wasn't designed for you can't expect it to work optimally.

  5. That is so annoying! I had a kitchenaid blender & it did not last at all, very disappointing for how much they cost. I do love my mixer though.

  6. Bella, I was making pesto. Never had any issues with cheaper food processors in the past.

Anon, good idea but since they are cheaper here guess would lose a lot of money.

  8. Im with you on this one Bella. Blenders are for liquids, processors are for solids or puree. Ive made pesto using my blender or even a stick blender before. K, What liquid's were you adding to your pesto?

  10. I agree with the others - liquids and food processors are for different purposes. Liquids = blender. Solids/slush textures = food processor.

The kitchenaid blender is to die for!

  11. Thanks re the comments about liquids, but we using only tiny amount of liquid mixed with nuts, we certainly were not trying to make a smoothie or something.

  12. I've had my processor for a few years now and the bowl leaks with just 2 cups of liquid. Has annoyed the crap out of me since learning of this fault. I wish KitchenAid would fix this ongoing issue. The processor runs flawlessly apart from that. I have a couple of KitchenAid appliances and not sure I will be purchasing anymore.
